Program Overview
Brewing for Equity: Leadership Development Program
The Brewing for Equity Leadership Development Program is a national initiative for U.S.-based professionals actively working in the coffee industry who are committed to their ongoing growth, contribution, and connection within the field.
This 9-month fellowship is designed for individuals who are actively engaged in the coffee sector through their current professional work. Whether you are already leading in your organization or seeking to advance in your leadership journey, this program offers the opportunity to gain new perspectives, build stronger networks, and expand your capacity to make a meaningful impact in the coffee industry.
Fellows will engage in virtual and in-person experiences designed to strengthen their understanding of the industry, broaden their relationships, and support their continued development as contributors to a more equitable coffee sector.
Five fellows will be selected for this intimate, high-impact experience.
Key Components
Monthly Virtual Sessions
Fellows will participate in 2–3 hour sessions featuring facilitator-guided discussions, guest speakers, and peer dialogue to explore key themes related to personal growth, industry engagement, and equity in the coffee industry.In-Person Leadership Workshop (Atlanta)
A 3-day experience designed to foster deep connection, reflection, and shared learning through workshops, panels, and community gatherings.Capstone Project
Fellows will create a personalized project that reflects their learning and engagement throughout the program. These projects are intended to be practical, meaningful, and rooted in the fellow’s existing work or interests within the industry.Industry Immersion
A short-term (up to 1-week) placement with a U.S.-based coffee company, providing a behind-the-scenes perspective and space for reflection on industry practices.Optional Ethiopia Trip
Fellows will have the opportunity to participate in an optional 7–10 day educational trip to Ethiopia, centered around the 2026 African Fine Coffees Association (AFCA) Conference and Exhibition. This immersive experience offers deeper context into the global coffee landscape.Closing Recognition at World of Coffee
Fellows will be honored at The First Sip event during the 2026 World of Coffee weekend in San Diego for their participation and contributions to the program.
Time Commitment
Fellows should expect to participate in:
5–6 monthly virtual sessions (2–3 hours each)
A 3-day in-person workshop (September 2025)
Approximately 1 week industry immersion visit (timing flexible)
Optional 7–10 day trip to Ethiopia (February 2026)
Final capstone presentations and celebration event in San Diego, April 2026
Additional prep and debrief sessions, as needed
Fellow Commitment
Full engagement is essential to the experience. Fellows are expected to:
Attend and participate in all virtual and in-person sessions
Engage thoughtfully in discussions and group activities
Complete all program components, including the capstone project
Communicate proactively with program staff regarding any conflicts or needs

Required travel will be reimbursed upon submission of approved documentation.Ethiopia Trip (Optional)
This experience will require some personal financial contribution. Full details will be provided to fellows in advance of confirming participation.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply, you must:
Be based in the United States
Be currently working in the coffee industry in a professional capacity
Demonstrate a consistent investment in your personal or professional growth
Be able to commit the time and energy required to participate fully in the program
